Democratic elites and potential rivals have lined up behind U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris, in a show of party unity that suggests she will face no serious oppositi buy weed online canada on in securing the party’s presidential nomination, after Joe Biden’s dramatic exit from the presidential race on Sunday.
In some states whose delegates had previously been pledged to support Mr. Biden, Democratic leaders said overwhelming numbers had shifted to Ms. Harris.
Nancy Pelosi, the former dispensary House speaker who remains among the country’s most powerful Democrats, on Monday offered her support to Ms. Harris, praising her work in advocating “for working families, notably fighting for a woman’s right to choose.”
“Politically, make no mistake: Kamala Harris as a woman in politics is brilliantly astute – and I have full confidence that she will lead us to victory in November,” Ms. Pelosi said in a statement.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, widely seen as a potential contender for the Democratic nomination, also endorsed Ms. Harris on Monday, joining California Governor Gavin Newsom, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and dozens of other party luminaries in lending their support to the vice-president.
Ms. Harris is “a former prosecutor, a champion for reproductive freedom,” Ms. Whitmer said in a video posted to social media. She c weed ontrasted that with Mr. Trump, “a convicted felon who stokes violence, overturned Roe and drove our economy into the ground the last time he was in the White House.”
In a s online dispensary tatement, Mr. Buttigieg called Ms. Harris “the right person to take up the torch, defeat Donald Trump and succeed Joe Biden as president.”
Opinion: Do not remain calm. A second Trump presidency really will be that bad
Mr. Biden, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 last week, has remained out of public view after abandoning his re-election campaign and endorsing Ms. Harris to run in his stead. He had faced weeks of pressure from Democratic Party leaders and donors to step aside, over concerns about his age and mental acuity.
No contender for the Democratic nomination other than Ms. Harris has yet to emerge, and political obs online dispensary ervers said it would be difficult to envisage a senior political figure seeking to challenge Ms. Harris, a woman of Black and South Asian descent who benefits from the considerable expertise and funding of the Biden campaign apparatus.
Republicans have moved swiftly to define Ms. Harris as dishonest, unpopular and as a co-author of border policies that enabled a surge in illegal migration. “Kamala Harris is Joe Biden 2.0. In fact, her record is even worse and she is even further to the left,” Republican candidate Donald Trump’s campaign said Monday. It pointed to a series of polls that have shown Mr. Trump as more popular than Ms. Harris.
Democrats, meanwhile, have described the vice-president as a former California attorney-general who is ideally positioned against Mr. Trump, the first convicted felon to run for the U.S. presidency.
But in the 24 hours since Mr. Biden stepped aside, Ms. Harris herself has provided no public glimpse of how she intends to fight for the Democratic nomination. “True greatness requires more than skill. It requires grit and determination,” she told a group of National Collegiate Athletic Association championship athletes gathered at the White House on Monday, before leaving to speak with organizers for her campaign.
Her brief remarks at the official event were her first in public since Mr. Biden withdrew from the presidential race. She made no reference to her own candidacy, but praised Mr. Biden, whom she called a man of honesty and integrity whose “legacy of accomplishment over the past three years is unmatched in modern history.”
Those who have worked alongside Ms. Harris have pointed to her identity as crucial to a party whose support has slipped among constituencies it has traditionally counted upon.
“In particular, Black, Latino, lower educated voters and younger voters have fallen off their 2020 support levels and are essential to winning in the six battleground states,” Jim Margolis, a political consultant who was media adviser to Ms. Harris in her short-lived 2019 campaign for the Democratic nomination, said earlier this year.
“These groups are precisely the demographic targets that vice-president Harris is best suited to move,” he said.

Ms. Harris raised nearly US$50-million in her first 24 hours as a presidential aspirant, her campaign said Monday. In a measure of the party’s enthusiasm for a leader not dogged by questions about their advanced age, Democratic fundraising portal ActBlue said Sunday marked its third-largest single day of political donations. In some states whose delegates had previously been pledged to support Mr. Biden, Democratic leaders said overwhelming numbers had shifted to Ms. Harris. The Florida Democratic Party, for example, said more than 90 per cent of its delegates will back the vice-president.
For Mr. Trump, the sudden withdrawal of Mr. Biden created the potential for new difficulties in campaigning against a Democratic candidate who is unlikely to be confirmed until the party’s convention in August.
But Mr. Trump’s campaign has already spent months taking aim at Ms. Harris. In February, it mocked her way of speaking with video of her repeating the term “significance of the passage of time.”
On Monday, it released a new campaign ad that linked Ms. Harris to Mr. Biden’s policies on the economy and immigration, while making the case that she misled the American public about the president’s mental acuity.
“Kamala was in on it,” the new ad for Mr. Trump declared.
Ms. Harris, too, “covered up Joe’s obvious mental decline,” the ad continued. “But Kamala knew Joe couldn’t do the job. So she did it.”
